Altitude partners with Empacar for +305.000t CDRs from Biochar Facilities in Bolivia

Altitude secures over 305,000t of CORCs from Empacar’s biochar facilities in Bolivia, expanding its high-integrity CDR portfolio and advancing scalable carbon removal across South America.

Altitude, a leading Carbon Removal Financier, has committed to procuring over 305,000 tons of CO₂ Removal Certificates (CORCs) from Empacar biochar-based carbon removal (CDR) facilities in Bolivia. The credits will be issued on Puro.earth or equivalent methodologies, ensuring high-integrity verification and traceability. The biochar facilities, operating under strict sustainability and verification standards, utilize advanced pyrolysis technology to convert bio-waste into biochar CDR while achieving positive results from the usage of biochar. The biochar experts at Bioflux are ensuring best-practice procedures and implementing their global knowledge to support optimally scale this platform.

Carlos Limpias (Empacar) and his team emphasized that this partnership accelerates the deployment of high-quality large-scale CDR capacity, bringing long-term climate benefits while creating local economic value.

“This agreement with Empacar is another step in a collaborative partnership scaling up CDR,” said Daniel Benjamin Schulz, CEO of Altitude. “By sourcing CORCs from high-quality biochar projects in Bolivia, we contribute to critical waste management and growth in this highly important regions.”

The procurement aligns with Altitude’s long-term strategy of building a large-scale portfolio of CDR credits, and Empacar’s proven capabilities leading CDR deployment across South America.

About Empacar:

Empacar S.A. is a leading Bolivian industrial company and part of one of the country’s most important and diversified business groups, with investments across key sectors of the national economy including industry, finance, retail, media, and real estate. Through decades of operation, the group has become part of Bolivia’s institutional and economic fabric, with brands that are widely recognized and trusted nationwide.

Within this ecosystem, Empacar has built a strong reputation as a pioneer in circular economy solutions and sustainable industrial development. The company operates advanced recycling and packaging infrastructure, including one of South America’s early bottle-to-bottle PET recycling platforms, and today recovers a significant share of post-consumer packaging in Bolivia.

Building on this experience in circular materials management, Empacar is now expanding into high-integrity carbon removal through large-scale biochar production. Its new biochar platform integrates sustainable biomass sourcing, industrial pyrolysis, and internationally certified carbon removal credits within a single scalable infrastructure.

With multiple production sites under development in Bolivia, Empacar’s biochar initiative aims to convert forestry and agricultural residues into stable carbon stored in biochar while generating durable CDR credits. Through this integrated model, the company seeks to scale high-quality carbon removal while supporting responsible forest management, waste reduction, and local economic development, positioning Bolivia as an emerging hub for durable carbon removal in South America.
